PRSI is based in Spallumcheen with a mandate to reduce atmospheric carbon, and provide sustainable systems to support clean water, food security, local jobs, and a circular economy.
Fast growing Hybrid poplars growing large root systems, are able to uptake substantial quantities of a wide variety of pollutants which include -fertilizers (nitrates, ammonia, phosphorous), inorganic metals, and petrochemical compounds- in the production of rapidly growing woody bio-mass.
During their growth they are sequestering atmospheric carbon and producing oxygen, when harvested they can then be used for non fossil fuel bioenergy (e.g. Fink Machine heating Enderby) or other carbon neutral applications.
In addition to phytoremediation services we also make biochar to use as a soil amendment among many other applications (e.g. building materials, odor control). We are committed to finding efficient solutions to reduce pollution of our air and water and provide tools to support local climate change resilience.
