The BC Marketplace is an initiative from Small Business BC to support and increase sales to local businesses across the province. The platform is free to use for the customer and business owner, and was created with support from the B.C. Government and the Government of Canada through Western Economic Diversification Canada.
Originally, the BC Marketplace was founded to give immediate support to small businesses by providing information on which businesses were still open and operating during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. After its initial success, we wanted to continue to develop the platform to support local businesses and encourage the BC community to #supportlocal every day.
We wanted to offer an opportunity for BC consumers to find product and service providers closer to home and to put money back into the local BC economy.
We have also created a dedicated PPE Marketplace to connect businesses with the non-medical PPE they need to safely conduct business during COVID-19.
Did you know, according to LOCOBC, a 10 percent shift in BC consumer spending towards independent businesses would create 14,150 jobs, and keep $4.3 billion in the BC economy?
Small Business BC is the premier resource centre for entrepreneurs and small business owners in British Columbia. We are a non-profit organization that exists to help BC-based entrepreneurs start and grow their own businesses. Like the entrepreneurs we serve, we are a small business made up of a small and mighty team with a passion for entrepreneurship.
As we like to say at Small Business BC, in British Columbia, small business is big business. In fact, 98 per cent of all businesses in our province are classified as small businesses. When these entrepreneurs thrive, we all thrive.
The BC Marketplace is supported by the Government of British Columbia and the Government of Canada through Western Economic Diversification Canada. The funding provided will help the development, marketing, and set-up of the BC Marketplace, in it’s target to support small business owners across the province.
We are also openly developing partnerships with other organizations, private and public, to expand the reach of the BC Marketplace across British Columbia. If you would like to get to get involved, then please use the contact button below to speak to a member of the team.
For comment, interviews, case studies or information on the BC Marketplace, journalists and broadcasters should contact our Content Coordinator, Darren Dunne, at dunne.darren@smallbusinessbc.ca
