Get fit and stay fit in 2021 with these BC Businesses – BC Marketplace

A November 2020 survey by Leger and the Association for Canadian Studies found that a third of Canadians have gained weight since March 2020. If you’ve put on some pandemic pounds in 2020 due to restrictions on how and where you can exercise, or maybe just the proximity of the fridge to your WFH desk, these fitness-focused BC businesses can get you moving.

Acuity Pilates Studio, Vancouver

Acuity Pilates Studio is a great example of a business idea that grew out of COVID-19. The studio’s instructors created a virtual studio space to offer online, coached Pilates classes to people stuck at home. A true community enterprise, Acuity donates 10% of the revenue from each class to community programs such as the Urban Native Youth Association in Vancouver.

JennaMaye Fitness, Vancouver

Jenna at JennaMaye Fitness offers virtual group fitness classes over Zoom for people who can’t get to the gym right now. Each class focuses on a different part of the bod—legs, arms and abs, and cardio—or provides a full body workout. You don’t need to worry about specialist equipment, and if you don’t feel ready to commit to a class, you can start with Jenna’s Fundamentals Course.

Yoga Buggy, Vancouver

Kids need to keep moving too. Yoga Buggy’s aim is to bring the benefits and fun of yoga to all children, including those who struggle with learning disabilities, social-emotional issues, and financial hardship. In place of its in-person classes right now, Yoga Buddy offers online kids yoga classes.

Two Wheel Gear, Vancouver

If your resolution is to get on your bike in 2021, whether for exercise, transport, or a bit of both, Two Wheel Gear offers made-in-B.C. panniers and cycling bags for all your stuff. Two Wheel Gear’s founders invented the first “bike suit bag” back in 1999. Today, they also make a complete range of handlebar and commuter bags, panniers, and backpacks. Show a little B.C. pride on your daily commute (when our offices all open up again, of course).

Recreative Apparel, Vancouver

Recreative Apparel gives you the chance to look great while working out, while also protecting the planet. The company’s breathable, sweat-wicking, anti-bacterial, UV-protective, and pill-resistant-technical activewear for women is made from recycled BPA-free plastic bottles. Recreative Apparel is a community-focused business, and their founders are also committed to investing in new eco-friendly materials as they appear.

FOR Apparel, Vancouver

FOR Apparel are on a mission to brighten up men’s activewear. Bored with the same old colours, materials, and styles produced by the well-known brands, the company created its own premium cotton garments infused with copper nano-particles. Their apparel not only has all the benefits you need from technical activewear, such as moisture wicking and odor resistance, but also holds up over time and retains its colour and style.

Getting in shape in 2021 might be just a click or phone call away. Find fitness classes, yoga teachers, personal trainers, activewear, and more in your area in the BC Marketplace.
